When Darkness Has Fallen
When darkness has fallen over all the light I see,
I hear Your loving whisper, “I am still here with thee.”
Although the night’s not fallen, all I want to do is sleep,
Close my eyes and dream, among those peaceful, loving sheep.
I know, deep down inside, this darkness too shall pass;
Oh, that it would shatter now, just like a plate of glass.
You said there would be days like this; the enemy draws near.
Just as he did in the beginning, his purpose remains very clear.
He wants only to kill and steal, destroy all that I own—
My life, my joy, my faith; everything I’ve ever known.
But You came so that I might have, a life abundant and full;
And that is the life I thankfully have, despite the enemy’s pull.
So thank You for trusting me with this darkness that’s descended;
For all the good I constantly see in You, is not what he intended.
No, nothing will obscure that vision, while this body still has breath,
For all pain and suffering will cease when victory conquers death.
