Heroes and Horses
3/8/24 RLB – A February 28, 2008 Dedication to my heroes: Mary, Ron, Jackie and Al
Plunged to the bottom of the lake with absolutely no way out.
All efforts exhausted, no escape, “Help!” I cried with a shout.
Then I thought, “No one heard my cry. I am here cutting all alone.
This hopeless situation is God saying, ‘You’re coming home.’”
It’s the ultimate surrender, with a peace that’s beyond compare.
No more will I wonder how I’ll die, knowing I am in God’s care.
But, still I pray for those I love and whoever finds me here.
“God, please grant them peace and let them know you are always near.”
With one last breath, my lungs fill with the lake’s murky water.
Then darkness brings the silence, as this lamb is led to slaughter.
But the next thing I hear is a voice saying, “Sir, open your eyes!”
While urging me to look at him, a smile began to rise.
Saying, “Oh, you’re going to be okay.” Not feeling that way at all.
My head pounding, coughing water, wondering, did I take a fall?
Seeing a police car and ambulance I asked, “Do you need help?”
“Sir, you had a lawnmower accident in the lake.” I gave a yelp!
“I’m still alive!” Hopeless situation, my mind began to recollect.
Remembering all that happened. It’s not an outcome I’d expect.
“What happened?!” I kept asking everyone, “How am I still alive?”
“If not for the heroes and horses; no way you would survive.”
Heroes and Horses are who God used to rescue me that 28th day.
God please remind them how special they are. This my prayer I pray.
May they feel, know and see your love from all your many sources.
And remember always your powerful working arm through all your
heroes and your horses!
