Are You Prepared?

Are You Prepared?

(Matt. 26:17-19 + Mark 14:12-16 + Lk. 22:7-13) RLB 10/16/23

The most incredible thing happen, on that first day,
Of the Festival, when the Passover lamb is slayed.
We asked Jesus, “Where do we prepare, the meal for you?”
“Go to Jerusalem, and obey what I tell you to do.”

“As you go in the city, a man carrying water you’ll meet.
Ask the home owner, ‘Where’s the room where we’ll eat?’
He will take you to a large room, that is upstairs.
There you should prepare our meal with all its affairs.”

As we entered the city, John was the one ahead.
We found everything  exactly the way Jesus said!
In the perfect room, we prepared the meal there.
We worked together, roasting the lamb with great care.

In the evening we gathered with Jesus at the table.
Suddenly, His statement made the room quite unstable.
He said, “There is one here of you who will betray.
It is going to be one of you eating with me today.”

Deeply distressed, we each asked, “Is it Me?”
“The one eating with me from this bowl, it is he.”
Then Jesus began to speak of betrayer, and His death.
“It would be better if his betrayer, never had a first breath.”

Then Jesus did something we did not expect.
An action that I couldn’t, help but to object.
As I watched Him washing all of our feet,
I thought, “This ruined meal, is now complete.”

As it is with so many lessons from Jesus we learn.
Washing our feet was because of love and concern.
Now He has shown us the full extent of His love,
For us, His disciples and of our God above.

How we love and serve each other reveals,
Whether our love for God is fake, or is real.
If we measure our serving by how much we’ve shared,
With those who don’t know God. Are you prepared?

  1. What is “fist breath”?

Matthew 26:24 Jesus says…”It would be far better for that man if he had never been born!”

  2. Another Wow! Amazed how your poetry brings me right into the scene. I feel like I am in the room at the table! Keep them coming!

  3. Wow, I just now saw the mis-spelling! Sorry, I did not catch that when you first pointed it out Daniel.Thank you Barbara
    for point it out.

There has to be a lesson in there somewhere. How can you look at something so many times and not see the mistake? That is not until someone points it out as a mistake! This convinces me that I need as many people in my life to help me see and understand the mistakes I make, way more than I thought. Thank you both for this valuable lesson!
