Escape the Flames
(Acts 3:1-11) RLB 11/9/13
We left early that afternoon, just so we would not be late.
For the prayer service that day, beyond the temple’s gate.
Approaching the Beautiful gate, a beggar asked for money.
We looked at him intently, saw his condition was not funny.
We commanded, “Look at us!” The lame man eagerly complied.
Expecting to get some money from us, instead I simply replied,
“I have no silver or gold for you, but words that are more than talk.
In the name of Jesus the Nazarene, get on your feet and walk!”
Then I took the lame man’s right hand and help him to his feet.
As I did his legs strengthened; healed instantly and complete.
First time ever, he jumped up, stood on his feet and began to walk.
In the temple, his praising God commotion, made the people talk.
When they realized, he was the beggar they had so often seen,
They were absolutely astounded asking, “What does this mean?”
Then we all rushed out in amazement to Solomon’s Colonnade.
Where the man held us tightly. God’s miracle was now displayed!
This account of the lame beggar’s healing is only the beginning,
Of God’s power over evil Satan and all our relentless sinning.
The Holy Spirit knows sin’s effects on us; it cripples and it maims.
Allow His right hand to help you up, and escape the painful flames!
