Torches of God

Torches of God

3/9/26 RLB (Judges 7)

There is a light each disciple must display,
The only light that shows this world the way.
It’s not the light of talents, good looks, or skill,
But the light that shines from Calvary’s hill.

God used Gideon and three hundred to display His power,
Against an enemy four hundred fifty times greater that hour.
God’s men held torches in the left and horns in the right,
It wasn’t jars breaking or the shouting that won the fight.

In panicked escape the Midianites killed one another,
Thinking in terror, “The enemy must be our brother!”
That dark night revealed the only true light to be found—
The torches God’s men held, standing their ground.

How important it is to carry God’s torch every day,
Not letting the enemy pull my heart away.
Only God’s light wins when sin has me outnumbered—
The light His life paid so I can worship unencumbered.

The torchlights Gideon used on that dark night
Defeated a mighty enemy without a fight.
The world may think those torchlights are odd,
But I know without question—they’re the Torches of God.
